The Operation Bear Hug Inititative

A CSU Student Veterans of America initiative dedicated to veteran mental health, resilience, and connection through physical camaraderie, outdoor challenges, and community support.

What is Operation Bear Hug?

Transitioning out of the military brings unique challenges, and no one should have to walk that path alone. The Operation Bear Hug Initiative (OBHI) is built by CSU student veterans, for CSU student veterans.

Our mission is simple: break down isolation and promote mental wellness through action. By combining physical resilience, outdoor camaraderie, and peer-to-peer accountability, OBHI helps create spaces where veterans can reconnect with the shared purpose and community they had in uniform.

Core Pillars

01
Peer Support

Rebuilding the tight-knit bonds of service. We provide a judgment-free network where fellow veterans support each other through academic, personal, and mental health challenges.

02
Physical Experiences

Leveraging Colorado’s backyard to build grit and clear minds. From group rucks and trail hikes to fitness events, we believe physical exertion alongside peers drives mental resilience.

03
Community Integration

Connecting CSU student veterans with local resources, alumni mentors, and mental health programs across Fort Collins and Northern Colorado.
