The Operation Bear Hug Initiative is a flagship mental health, wellness, and resilience program hosted by the CSU Student Veterans of America. Originally conceived to combat isolation and break down mental health stigmas within the military-connected student body, the initiative bridges physical challenge with authentic peer connection.
Through structured community events—including campus obstacle courses, endurance rucks, resilience trail hikes, and wellness workshops—Operation Bear Hug provides veterans and supporters an open, intentional space to build grit, decompress, and strengthen community ties. By pairing physical camaraderie with active mental health overwatch and partnerships with local veteran organizations, the initiative ensures that no student veteran has to navigate the transition alone.
